JHS Mathematics teachers attended the 'Math Workshop' conducted by Ramanujam Museum & Math Education Centre, Chennai on June 30, 2017, at Hotel Comfort Inn Gandhinagar, Bengaluru.

There were 26 teachers, including JHS teachers who attended the workshop. It was a good opportunity to interact with Math teachers of other schools across Bengaluru.

Mrs. Meena Suresh, Director of Ramanujam Museum & Math Education Centre trained the teachers on lots of different hands-on-manipulative to teach math for grade 1 to 5 students.

The concepts were as follows.

  • Four major operations on numbers ( +, -, x, ÷ )
  • Measurements, time lapses, and place value
  • Fractions, HCF and LCM, Parameter and Area

The objects/materials that were used were sophisticated and colorful for the children of the primary level. The learning was through practical approach & definitely “Do it yourself” helps the children retain the concepts for a longer period of time.

The workshop, thus really helped the teachers to think differently so that concepts are easily taught to the children.
