Secretary Generals' Address

Greetings to all you delegates out there, my name is Aditya Muralishankar and I am the Secretary General of JNMUN 2.0. What is MUN, why do we MUN? Is MUN simply a trend? Is MUN just another platform to dress up fancy and show up? No, MUN is so much more than that, it's the catalyst that speeds up the process of self actualisation and realising your worth in the world.

It's about being diplomatic at the right moments and breaking out of those fearful shackles that bind most of us down, stage fright. We, at JNMUN 2.0, promise you, that dominance and aggression will not be the trump cards that delegates can use. Instead, coordination and cooperation whilst experiencing debate of the highest level is what we guarantee. We ensure, that you'll walk out as two things, a better delegate, and a more confident individual. It is my honour to welcome you to this year's edition of Jain Model United Nations where "What you think, you create, What you imagine, you become."

- Aditya Muralishankar

"The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is one of the five principal organs of the United Nations, charged with the maintenance of international peace and security as well as accepting new members to the United Nations and approving any changes to its United Nations Charter. Its powers include the establishment of peacekeeping operations, the establishment of international sanctions, and the authorization of military action through Security Council resolutions; it is the only UN body with the authority to issue binding resolutions to member states. The Security Council held its first session on 17 January 1946."

Agenda 1: Instability and Destabilizing effect of Foreign Military Bases

Agenda 2: Post-Conflict Re-Integration of Ex-Combatants in Countries Affected by Civil War

The DISEC committee was established by the United Nations to serve as a forum for representatives from all UN member countries to debate issues of disarmament and security in an environment of equality. This committee takes measures necessary for the prevention or the reduction of international hostilities and conflict on matters that are not discussed by the United Nations Security Council. As stated in the UN Charter, the DISEC Committee is actually called upon to "consider the general principles of co-operation in the maintenance of international peace and security" (Chapter IV, Article 11). However, unlike the Security Council, DISEC does not have the power to impose sanctions or to authorize armed interventions. As a preliminary organ, DISEC serves as the first level of discussion for most recent issues in the disarmament and security sphere, thus setting programmatic directions and giving more freedom to states to fully develop their positions. DISEC’s resolutions function as ‘raw material”, a constitutive basis for General Assembly resolutions or are submitted as recommendations to the Secretariat or the Security Council. The DISEC Committee is comprised of all member states of the United Nations, each having one vote. Resolutions are passed by a simple majority vote. Engaged in the DISEC Committee consultations, you will have a unique opportunity to actively participate in formulating the global security agenda, contributing to better understanding and providing recommendations and solutions to various forms of international conflicts, disarmament and other security policy related matters.
