Kudos to Abijith & Likith

Abhijit (Grade 9) & Likith Bannur (Grade 7) from Jain Heritage School playing for Friends Union Cricket Club were the two key players in the role of winning against Visweswarampuram Cricket Club. Abijith hit a knock of 60 & Likith bagged 5 wickets for just 10 runs.

Linguistic Club Grade 7B – Writing down multiple words using a single word
23rd March 11

JHS, Grades 7A & 7B had a “Linguistic Club” activity. Facilitators had the words HOSPITALITY and MANAGEMENT and the students had to extract as many words from these as possible. Each word gave up to seven smaller words and the students had a great time beating each other to get more number of words. Another activity was getting maximum words starting with ‘At’ and ‘Bu’; and making rhyming words with ca, ce, ch, ci, cu, co, cr. Parts of speech were also recalled.

  Young Engineers Grade 5 - Structure of Helicopter
23rd March 11
JHS, Grade 5 had a Club Activity of “Young Engineers” to structure a Helicopter. Its each functions and working process were explained to the students. Later, they had a practical experience in the ground with the subject. Students enjoyed a lot and had fun with it. The discussion class was very informative and full of creativity for the students.
  Young Engineers Grade 8 - Hover Craft
23rd March 11
JHS, Grade 8 had a Club Activity of “Young Engineers” to structure a model that moves on both land and Water. The model’s structural parts, its functions and working process were explained. Students used styropor as the base of the model; motor & propeller were set to the base and made a hole on the styropor such that the propeller can be fixed. Now the battery was connected the motor and the entire model started floating. Students enjoyed this activity and had fun altogether.
  Eco Club Grade 5 - To collect information on Soil Conservation and Erosion.
23rd March 11
JHS, Grade 5 had a Club Activity of “Eco Club” to collect information on soil conservation and erosion to develop independent writing and resource making. Children were taken to the Library and books were referred to collect information about soil erosion, conservation and control soil from surface runoff. Children were very enthusiastic to collect the information and learnt totally a new topic.
  Holi with flowers at Fundamentals
11th March 11
As a part of Holi / Yellow Day Celebration at Fundamentals JHS, all the children and facilitators came in Yellow colour attire. There was a special assembly where a teacher narrated a story on Holi. Children were taught rhymes and songs on Yellow colour. The classes were decorated with flowers got by children. Later children played holi using the same flowers and wished each other.
  Fruit Salad Making
11th March 11
The children at JHS Fundamentals, with the help of their facilitators, prepared a delicious fruits salad by mixing various fruits. Fruits names and its importance for good health were discussed in the class. Later, the entire Fundamental kids were served with the salad, which they found very tasty and enjoyed the activity of preparing “Fruits Salad”.

Visit to Planetarium
17th February 11
Children of Advanced & Basic Fundamentals were taken to visit the Planetarium on 17th Feb 2011. They were briefed about the Solar system. They were curious and asked many questions related to the Solar system. They also saw few pictures displayed in the Planetariums & many of them recognized almost all the planets.

Pink Day & Doll’s Party - Fundamentals
21st January 11
It was a Pink day celebration & a Doll’s party at fundamentals on 21st Jan 2011. Children came in pink attire along with their favorite doll/toy. They had innovative games, craft activity, stories, rhymes, dance and teacher-student talk in the class. Children were served strawberry ice cream and were given a take home craft made by teachers.

  Knowing The World Around Me - Basic Fundamentals
08th November 10
As of the theme ‘Knowing the world around me’ the children’s in fundamentals, an activity “Making a nest” was conducted on 8th December 2010. Trees are my best friends; on this significance of trees, this activity was done. Children were made to collect the dry leaves, flowers and make a nest out of it. The teacher explained them about how a bird can utilize the nest and where the birds will keep the nest. All the children enjoyed and learnt with this activity.

Field Trip To Bannerghatta National Park
26th November 10
The children from Advance Fundamentals went on a field to Bannerghatta National Park on 26th November, 2010. The excited children boarded the buses singing loud rhymes. They had snacks and juice as soon as they were in the park. Unable to contain their excitement any longer, they went inside the National Park. The children screamed out the names of different animal. After a long  walk around the park, they halted for lunch. The children had lunch and played for some more time. It’s a wonder how much of energy these tiny tots have!! They finally bid goodbye to the animals in the park and left for JHS.
  Field trip to Yelahanka Market
25th November 10
As a part of the Theme “Fruits and Vegetables”, the children of Advanced Fundamentals visited Yelahanka Market on 25th November 2010. They had a practical experience, of viewing and feeling all the fruits and vegetables. They saw the process of buying and selling the fruits and vegetables in the market.
  Maggie Quiz Competition
23rd November 10
Maggie Quiz was conducted on 23rd November 2010. Students from Grade IV to VI participated in the event. In each group, there were six participants. The event was conducted by Nestle India. The competition was based on Science, Mathematics, Current Affairs and Politics. It was an educational programme, full of knowledge and information. All the students had a great time and they enjoyed the event. The winners were given the prizes by the Nestle India team.

A Science event was organised by Vidyashilp Acadamy on 22nd and 23rd of November 2010. The theme for the competition was ‘Arete- Supraliminal’ based in Ecology and Environmental Conservation.

The theme “Fruits and vegetables’, was chosen to make the children aware and enhance their knowledge about the taste, colour, texture of the fruits and vegetables. We had a ‘Salad day’ celebration on 19th November 2010 in the basic fundamentals. All the children took part in the activity by scraping, peeling, cutting, washing etc and they enjoyed eating the same along with their friends.
  Formation of Day & Night - Advanced Fundamentals
18th November 10
An experiment was conducted using globe and torch in the Advance Fundamentals on 18th November 2010, to show the formation of day and night. They were made to understand that the torch represents the sun and the globe represents the earth.

  Workshop on effective teaching of Mathematics

Ms. Smitha Nampoothiri and Ms. Susie Chacko attended a workshop on Effective teaching of Mathematics at United Theological College, Bangalore on 11th November, 2010. The Resource person was Ms. Meena Kumari. Many paper activities were taught like how to fold a paper and make it strong enough to hold maximum weight, slit a paper to make a hole large enough to pass one through etc. A twine of unknown length was given and the participants were asked to make a right angled triangle with integers as side measures.
  Math Club Activity
03rd November 10
A Math club activity was conducted on November 3rd 2010 for the students of grade VI by Ms. Suzie. The students had to make rangoli designs with tangrams as a part of the theme. Tangrams are shapes made out of 7 polygons, 2 small triangles, 1 medium sized triangle, 2 large triangles, 1 square and a parallelogram.

In the first week of November a show was conducted on Pet’s (show and talk). Students had to get their own pet toy and share their views on the same, Firstly children were sensitized with pet, domestic, aquatic and wild animals. Each child spoke about their favorite pet addressing their peer group. Children spoke on how they care pets and their eating habits.

Teja - Little Genius of JHS!
12th November 10
Teja Tirunelveli of Grade 1B is a shining star that JHS is proud to have on its rolls. Teja has won the Tennis Tournament organised by the US Tennis Association in Oklahoma City. She has secured 15th rank in Kumon Math from among 6330 children of North America and cleared the Fish level for swimming for small children.

In the month of October, Ms. Arpana Eluri, a dentist by profession and a parent of Arrav Eluri of Advance Fundamentals (daisy) interacted with the children on oral cleanliness, which was very useful for them. She narrated a story, a rhyme and played an animation film on the interactive board.  She explained them about habits like brushing teeth twice a day, washing hands regularly and gargle their mouth after eating.

The students of Grade 10 did a simple electronic project on 9th of November 2010. The students dealt with basic electronic components such as Resistors, Capacitors and Transistors. The working principle of this circuit was a switch but the mechanical switch was replaced by a touch sensor where the circuit could be turned on / off by a simple finger touch.

This was an amazing experience for the students of JHS!

Anemometer is a device, which is used to check the speed of the wind. In the session on 10th November 2010 by the Young Engineer’s Club, the student had made their own anemometer using plastic cups and straws which is also called a cup anemometer.
It was an interesting session for the students.

In the Advance Fundamental, children were made to understand the meaning of buying and selling through a “Mock shop” activity on 20th September 2010. Teachers made a mock stationary shop in the classroom. Some children became shopkeepers and some customers. Artificial currencies were given to them to buy from shopkeepers, concept of money required for buying, and selling was taught to the children. Children behaved very well during the activity and played the roles of a customer as well as the seller.

Field Trip to Jain Temple

The tiny tots of Fundamentals went on a field trip to the temple of “Shree Nakoda Parshwanath” 108 thirthankar. We left for the temple after a healthy breakfast. Once we reached the temple, the very sight of the huge structure left us breathless. After the tour of the magnificent architectural wonder and the “Arti”, the children had a simple and delicious meal. It was indeed overwhelming to see these children revere the lord and pay their respects.

Gandhiji’s values were portrayed to Advance Fundamentals through different ways. A child named Christy was dressed as Mahatma Gandhi. Teachers spoke about the great leader’s vision by narrating the story of 3 monkeys. Some children were given the opportunity to talk about our ‘Father of Nation’. Later children sang his famous bhajan ‘Raghupathi Raghav Raja Ram’.

Field Trip to Jain Temple

The tiny tots of Fundamentals went on a field trip to the temple of “Shree Nakoda Parshwanath” 108 thirthankar. We left for the temple after a healthy breakfast. Once we reached the temple, the very sight of the huge structure left us breathless. After the tour of the magnificent architectural wonder and the “Arti”, the children had a simple and delicious meal. It was indeed overwhelming to see these children revere the lord and pay their respects.

Special Assembly for fundamentals on Gandhi Jayanti

Gandhiji’s values were portrayed to Advance Fundamentals through different ways. A child named Christy was dressed as Mahatma Gandhi. Teachers spoke about the great leader’s vision by narrating the story of 3 monkeys. Some children were given the opportunity to talk about our ‘Father of Nation’. Later children sang his famous bhajan ‘Raghupathi Raghav Raja Ram’.

  Mono-Act for Grade 4 to 7

On 23rd September 2010, the mono-act session was conducted for grade 4 to 7 by Mr. Kulkarni - Performing Arts Teacher. The Theme was “Bhakta Prahlada”. He played the role of Prahlada, Hirmayakashipu and Sri Narisimha all at the same time with his wonderful voice modulations and body language. The students and teachers, all were enthralled by his excellent performance.

Mono-Act for Grade 1 to 3

At JHS, Sri Kulkarni, our Performing Arts Teacher, treated them, to a scintillating performance of mono-acting. On 22nd September, 2010, he performed a Mono-Acton “PUNYAKOTI” the story of a cow and the tiger. The young ones of Grade 1 to Grade 3 were in rapt attention. They could actually visualize the cow pleading with the tiger to let her go and feed her little calf and come back to him to be his meal.

Field Trip to H.A.L Museum

On Sept 14th the primary section of Jain Heritage School had a field trip to Hindustan Aeronautical Limited (HAL). The children got to see huge planes and helicopters which were used during wars. They saw models of almost all kinds of planes and helicopters including passenger planes invented till date. They were also shown a movie on how aeroplane was invented and also on how the engine of an aeroplane functions. They were also shown models of missiles and rockets.
