Knowing The World Around Me - Basic Fundamentals

As of the theme ‘Knowing the world around me’ the children’s in fundamentals, an activity “Making a nest” was conducted on 8th December 2010. Trees are my best friends; on this significance of trees, this activity was done. Children were made to collect the dry leaves, flowers and make a nest out of it. The teacher explained them about how a bird can utilize the nest and where the birds will keep the nest. All the children enjoyed and learnt with this activity. |

Field Trip To Bannerghatta National Park
26th November 10
The children from Advance Fundamentals went on a field to Bannerghatta National Park on 26th November, 2010. The excited children boarded the buses singing loud rhymes. They had snacks and juice as soon as they were in the park. Unable to contain their excitement any longer, they went inside the National Park. The children screamed out the names of different animal. After a long walk around the park, they halted for lunch. The children had lunch and played for some more time. It’s a wonder how much of energy these tiny tots have!! They finally bid goodbye to the animals in the park and left for JHS. |

Maggie Quiz was conducted on 23rd November 2010. Students from Grade IV to VI participated in the event. In each group, there were six participants. The event was conducted by Nestle India. The competition was based on Science, Mathematics, Current Affairs and Politics. It was an educational programme, full of knowledge and information. All the students had a great time and they enjoyed the event. The winners were given the prizes by the Nestle India team. |

Ms. Smitha Nampoothiri and Ms. Susie Chacko attended a workshop on Effective teaching of Mathematics at United Theological College, Bangalore on 11th November, 2010. The Resource person was Ms. Meena Kumari. Many paper activities were taught like how to fold a paper and make it strong enough to hold maximum weight, slit a paper to make a hole large enough to pass one through etc. A twine of unknown length was given and the participants were asked to make a right angled triangle with integers as side measures. |

A Math club activity was conducted on November 3rd 2010 for the students of grade VI by Ms. Suzie. The students had to make rangoli designs with tangrams as a part of the theme. Tangrams are shapes made out of 7 polygons, 2 small triangles, 1 medium sized triangle, 2 large triangles, 1 square and a parallelogram.

Students had to get their own pet toy and share their views on the same, Firstly children were sensitized with pet, domestic, aquatic and wild animals. In the month of October, Ms. Arpana Eluri, a dentist by profession and a parent of Arrav Eluri of Advance Fundamentals (daisy) interacted with the children on oral cleanliness, which was very useful for them. She narrated a story, a rhyme and played an animation film on the interactive board. She explained them about habits like brushing teeth twice a day, washing hands regularly and gargle their mouth after eating. |

Young Engineer's Programme – Grade 10
9th November 10
The students of Grade 10 did a simple electronic project on 9th of November 2010. The students dealt with basic electronic components such as Resistors, Capacitors and Transistors. The working principle of this circuit was a switch but the mechanical switch was replaced by a touch sensor where the circuit could be turned on / off by a simple finger touch.
This was an amazing experience for the students of JHS!

Anemometer is a device, which is used to check the speed of the wind. In the session on 10th November 2010 by the Young Engineer’s Club, the student had made their own anemometer using plastic cups and straws which is also called a cup anemometer.

In the Advance Fundamental, children were made to understand the meaning of buying and selling through a “Mock shop” activity on 20th September 2010. Teachers made a mock stationary shop in the classroom. Some children became shopkeepers and some customers. Artificial currencies were given to them to buy from shopkeepers, concept of money required for buying, and selling was taught to the children. Children behaved very well during the activity and played the roles of a customer as well as the seller. |

The tiny tots of Fundamentals went on a field trip to the temple of “Shree Nakoda Parshwanath” 108 thirthankar. We left for the temple after a healthy breakfast. Once we reached the temple, the very sight of the huge structure left us breathless. After the tour of the magnificent architectural wonder and the “Arti”, the children had a simple and delicious meal. It was indeed overwhelming to see these children revere the lord and pay their respects. |

At JHS, Sri Kulkarni, our Performing Arts Teacher, treated them, to a scintillating performance of mono-acting. On 22nd September, 2010, he performed a Mono-Acton “PUNYAKOTI” the story of a cow and the tiger. The young ones of Grade 1 to Grade 3 were in rapt attention. They could actually visualize the cow pleading with the tiger to let her go and feed her little calf and come back to him to be his meal. |

On Sept 14th the primary section of Jain Heritage School had a field trip to Hindustan Aeronautical Limited (HAL). The children got to see huge planes and helicopters which were used during wars. They saw models of almost all kinds of planes and helicopters including passenger planes invented till date. They were also shown a movie on how aeroplane was invented and also on how the engine of an aeroplane functions. They were also shown models of missiles and rockets. |

On 7th September, 2010, an activity was conducted for the Basic fundamental students. As a part of the theme “Knowing my school”, girls and boys were called separately to line up. Each girl and boy were given a chance to count how many girls and how many boys are there in the class. |

Students from Grade IV - VII were taken on a field trip to the Parle Biscuit Factory on Pune Highway with their respective class teachers, sport coaches on 3rd Sept 2010.
To begin with, they were shown an animation film which taught them about the set up of the factory and the process of biscuit making. |
